In chapter 13 in,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, Edna begins to feel ill during mass and Robert decides to take her to Madam Antoine’s house where she can rest. Madam Antoine tries to make Edna as comfortable as possible and allows her to sleep in her big, white, luxurious bed. Edna sleeps until late afternoon and jokes to Robert that she must have been sleeping for years. When Edna appears from her slumber Robert’s face lights up and he is very happy that she is awake and feeling better. Edna, Robert, and Madam Antoine all sit under the orange trees and listen to each other’s stories.
In chapter 14 in,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, Edna and Robert return to her cottage where they find her youngest child too cranky to sleep. Edna holds him in his arms and calls him sweet names to relax him. She puts him to bed as Robert leaves. Leonce is out doing business and Edna waits outside for him. She begins to wonder why this summer is so different than the many others. She realizes that she is different. Edna begins to sing a song that Robert was singing because she missed him.
