Chapter 39:

In chapter 39 of,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, Victor and Mariequita are hanging out and Victor is once again discussing Edna’s farewell dinner party. Mariequita is jealous and believes that Victor is in love with Edna. AS the two are talking Edna shows up out of nowhere. ” The two youngsters stayed dumb with amazement.” (Chopin, page 187). Victor offers his room to Edna so that she can freshen up. Edna decides to go down to the beach and maybe even swim. During Edna’s sleepless night she was up thinking about everything, especially Robert, and was so stuck in a depressive mood that she presumably decided to kill herself. Edna thought of the kids and of Mr. Pontellier but they didn’t have enough pull in this situation. Edna made it to the beach and switched into her bathing suit. Feeling uncomfortable and realizing she was alone, Edna decided to stand naked on the beach. She began swimming out into the ocean and was thinking of so many people and the many things they have said to her. She remembered the awful note left by Robert. Edna recalled a distant childhood memory before she finally was no more.
