In chapter 35 of,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, Edna wakes up filled with hope for her and Robert. She believes that Robert will visit her and they can overcome any obstacle in their way. Robert does not visit her and she avoids places where she could run into him. Edna began to lose hope. “There was no despondency when she fell asleep that night, nor was there hope when she awoke in the morning.” (Chopin, page 173).
