Chapter 9:

In chapter 9 of,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, the people of the Grande Isle are at Madame Leburn’s house for a party where the children will be performing a musical recital. Two young twin ladies begin playing the piano after their grandfather removed the parrot. Edna is dancing to the music with her husband twice, Robert once, and once with Monsieur Ratignolle. Adele doesn’t dance because she is pregnant but instead she plays the piano. Later on, Edna goes outside to take in some fresh air. Robert comes looking for her and finds her to ask if she would like to hear Mademoiselle Reisz perform a song. She obviously accepts and the song choice leaves Edna upset and emotional. Mademoiselle Reisz says that Edna is the only person here that she was the “only member of the audience worthy of her performance. At the end of the chapter, the vacationers decided to go night swimming.
