In chapter 34 of,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, Edna and Robert enjoyed a small dinner while talking to each other, avoiding their personal relationship. While Robert rolls a cigar Edna examines his new tobacco pouch and discovers that it was given to Robert by a Vera Cruz girl. Arobin arrived at Edna’s house and Robert excused himself. Arobin lingers for a little bit to talk to Edna. Edna wishes for quiet and sends him off to live his life for the night and he replies with,” You know that I only live when I am near you.” (Chopin, page 170). After Arobin leaves Edna reviews her time spent with Robert and is left feeling dissatisfied and blue.
