Chapter 26:

In Chapter 26 in the novel,” The Awakening,” Arobin writes Edna a letter apologizing for his actions the night before. This embarrasses and annoys Edna. She responds playfully to Arobin and he begins visiting her every day. Later, Edna visits Mademoiselle Reisz so that she is able to calm her nerves and listen to the soothing music made from Reisz’s piano. Edna tells Mademoiselle Reisz about her plans on moving into a small four-room home that is just around the corner from her current house. Mademoiselle Reisz does not seem surprised but tries to find Edna’s reasoning for the move. Edna realizes that she doesn’t feel right living and mooching off her husband’s money. She wants to be an independent woman. Edna decides to have a big dinner at her current house before she leaves. As she goes to invite Mademoiselle Reisz to the dinner, she pulls out a letter written by Robert and tells Edna that the reason Robert doesn’t write to her is because he is in love with her. Robert is trying to forget her because she is taken.
