In chapter 18 of,” The Awakening,” written by Kate Chopin, Leonce invites Edna to accompany him in looking for new fixtures for their library but Edna refuses. Edna went through her old sketches, picked the most worthy, and made her way to Madam Ratignolle’s home.Edna shared the sketches with Adele and told her about how she has been wanting to study art with Laidpore. Adele was amazed by Edna’s talent and was very grateful when Edna gave her some of her work. Edna stayed for dinner at the Ratignolles’ and noticed the couple’s extreme unity. She left their house feeling quite depressed. After observing her friend’s marriage she couldn’t help but feel sorrowful for them. Their extreme contentedness would drive them away from any passion.
